Lucius Pharmaceuticals (Laos) Co., Ltd. was established in 2020, with its headquarters located at No. 26, Thongmang Village, Xaitaani District, Vientiane, the capital of Laos. Its predecessor can be traced back to Lucius Pharmaceuticals Co., Ltd., founded in 2014 in Hyderabad, India—a city renowned as the "capital of pharmaceutical generic industry." In 2020, the company relocated entirely to Laos and assembled a new R&D and operations team.
The factory covers an area of approximately 210,000 square meters (about 25,000 square feet) and houses the Asia-Pacific No.1 Smart Factory, equipped with pharmaceutical manufacturing machinery sourced from China, the United States, Germany, and other countries. Currently, the company offers over 200 generic drug varieties, 54 of which are anticancer drugs.
Lucius Pharmaceuticals has obtained GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) certification from the Lao Ministry of Health. This certification attests that the company's production environment, facilities, and processes meet international standards.
In terms of quality management, the company has established a full-chain quality traceability system covering raw material procurement, production processes, and finished product inspection. Its production environment simultaneously meets the GMP requirements of Laos, the EU, the US, and China. The Director of the Lao Food and Drug Administration visited the factory in June 2023 and gave high praise to the production facilities and quality management systems.
It should be noted that Laos's overall drug regulatory framework is still being improved, and currently no Lao pharmaceutical company has obtained WHO Prequalification (WHOPQ). Lucius Pharmaceuticals' GMP certification is an official certification at the national level of Laos, and it differs from GMP certifications issued by regulatory authorities in developed countries in terms of certifying body and standards.
In October 2023, the World Health Organization (WHO) conducted a comprehensive inspection of the Lucius Pharmaceuticals factory. The inspection conclusion showed that the Lucius factory fully complied with WHO standards and received affirmation from the WHO. WHO microbiologist Dr. Louis visited the factory to provide training and gave detailed explanations on WHO laboratory prequalification requirements.
This assessment result means that Lucius Pharmaceuticals has obtained recognition from an international authoritative body at the level of production facilities and quality management systems. However, it should be noted that WHO factory inspection and WHO Prequalification of medicines are two different concepts—the former evaluates whether production facilities meet standards, while the latter involves rigorous review of specific drug products.
Lucius Pharmaceuticals' products cover multiple therapeutic areas, mainly including antitumor drugs, cardiovascular drugs, hematology drugs, diabetes drugs, dermatology drugs, men's health drugs, and anti-aging medications.
In the antitumor field, approved and marketed drugs include Sotorasib, Osimertinib, Cabozantinib, Larotrectinib, Lorlatinib, Ivosidenib, Gilteritinib, and 54 other varieties. In 2024, the company launched the world's first generic version of Momelotinib.
In terms of commercial expansion, products have been sold to many countries and regions including Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Turkey, Japan, and others.
Lucius Pharmaceuticals holds legal drug manufacturing qualifications and GMP certification in Laos, and has passed the WHO factory inspection. Its product line focuses on antitumor generics with broad coverage. However, Laos's overall drug regulatory system is still developing. It is recommended that patients with medication needs obtain drugs through formal channels and use them under the professional guidance of licensed physicians or pharmacists.
