Adult initiation regimen: The initial dose is 2.5 mg once weekly for 4 consecutive weeks. After that, the doctor will increase the dose to 5 mg once weekly. If needed, the doctor may increase the dose stepwise by 2.5 mg increments to 7.5 mg, 10 mg, 12.5 mg, or 15 mg (once weekly). Before each dose increase, you must stay on the current dose for at least 4 weeks. Adolescents and children aged 10-17 years (type 2 diabetes): Also start with 2.5 mg once weekly, and after 4 weeks increase to 5 mg once weekly. Based on need, the doctor may increase to 7.5 mg and 10 mg (once weekly); before each increase, the corresponding dose must be used for at least 4 weeks. Do not adjust the dose on your own without your doctor's approval.
You may inject at any time of the day, regardless of meals. It is best to inject on the same day each week to help with memory. If necessary, you may change the injection day, as long as at least 3 days have passed since the previous injection. After selecting a new injection day, continue with once-weekly injections on that day.
Tirzepatide should be injected subcutaneously into the abdomen (at least 5 cm away from the navel), the upper thigh, or the back of the upper arm. Injections into the back of the upper arm should be assisted by another person. The same body region may be used each week, but you must change the specific injection point within that region. If you also inject insulin, choose a different injection site.
A new disposable needle must be used for each injection to prevent infection and needle blockage. Follow the steps in the instructions: remove the pen cap, disinfect the red inner seal of the pen, attach a new needle, perform the prime (turn the dose window to show the extension line, tap the pen vertically to bring air bubbles upward, press the dose button until it stops and count slowly to 5, confirm that a drop of medication appears at the needle tip). If priming fails, repeat up to two times; if still unsuccessful, change the needle and try again; otherwise, contact the manufacturer.
If you forget to inject and it is no more than 4 days past the scheduled injection time, inject as soon as possible, then continue with your next injection as originally scheduled. If more than 4 days have passed, skip the missed dose and proceed with your next injection as originally scheduled. Never inject a double dose to make up for a missed one. At least 3 days should elapse between two injections.
If you inject too much Tirzepatide, contact your doctor immediately. Overdose may cause hypoglycemia, nausea, or vomiting.
Do not stop using Tirzepatide on your own without consulting your doctor. If you have type 2 diabetes, stopping the medication on your own may lead to elevated blood sugar. If you have any questions about treatment changes, please consult your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
