Always follow your doctor's instructions when taking ritlecitinib. The recommended dose is 50 mg (one capsule) once daily, taken orally. Swallow the capsule whole with a full glass of water. Do not open, crush, or chew the capsule before swallowing, as this may change the actual amount of drug absorbed by your body, affecting efficacy or increasing the risk of side effects. You may take it with or without food. Take it at the same time each day to help maintain stable drug levels in your blood. If you are unsure how to take it, please consult your doctor or pharmacist.
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is within 8 hours of your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the regular time. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one, as this increases the risk of side effects. If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose of ritlecitinib, contact your doctor immediately, as you may experience the side effects mentioned below. If you need to interrupt treatment for a short time (no more than 6 weeks), the risk of scalp hair loss is low, but do not stop taking the medication without discussing it with your doctor first.
Any medication can cause side effects, and ritlecitinib is no exception, though not everyone gets them. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience signs of the following serious side effects: shingles (painful blistering rash, with or without fever), hives (itchy rash). Common side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10 people) include: nasal, throat, or airway infections; diarrhea; dizziness; acne; rash other than hives or shingles; folliculitis (inflamed, swollen hair follicles that may be itchy or painful); and elevated creatine kinase levels seen in blood tests. Uncommon side effects (may affect up to 1 in 100 people) include: low platelet count, low lymphocyte count, elevated liver enzymes. Report any side effects to your doctor or pharmacist, or directly via the national adverse drug reaction reporting system. Your report helps increase safety information about this medicine.
