What to Note When Taking Capivasertib

Do not take other medications unless you have discussed them with your doctor. This includes prescription or over-the-counter (OTC) medicines, as well as herbal remedies or vitamin supplements.

What to Note When Taking Capivasertib

This medicine may cause diarrhea (colitis), which can be severe in some cases. Your doctor may prescribe medications to treat diarrhea. Drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration and kidney problems. If you have any questions about this, or if mild diarrhea persists or worsens, consult your doctor. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience abdominal pain, or mucus or blood in your stool.

This medicine may cause severe skin reactions, including erythema multiforme, hand-foot skin reaction, and Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms (DRESS). Contact your doctor right away if you develop any of the following symptoms: black, tarry stools; skin blistering, peeling, or loosening; chest pain; chills; cough; diarrhea; fever; itching; joint or muscle pain; painful or difficult urination; red, inflamed eyes; red, swollen, or painful skin; peeling skin on the hands or feet; sore throat; sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips; swollen glands; tingling in the hands or feet; difficulty breathing; skin ulcers; unusual bleeding or bruising; or unusual tiredness or weakness.

Side Effects of Capivasertib

Like any treatment, capivasertib may cause side effects. Individual responses to medication vary, and some people may experience more side effects than others. These side effects can usually be managed, and not everyone will experience the side effects described here.

Since capivasertib needs to be used in combination with fulvestrant, you may also experience side effects from fulvestrant.

Your treatment team can usually adjust the dosage to better suit you and help control side effects. This may sometimes allow you to continue treatment for a longer period.

You should be provided with a 24-hour contact number, or informed of whom to reach out to if you feel unwell or concerned about side effects at any time—including nights or weekends.

How to Take Capivasertib

Capivasertib is taken orally, twice daily. It is available as tablets, which can be taken with food or on an empty stomach. You should take the doses at approximately the same times each day. The usual dosing schedule is 4 consecutive days of treatment followed by 3 days off.

Missed Dose: If you miss a dose and remember it within 4 hours of the scheduled time, take the missed dose as soon as possible. If more than 4 hours have passed since the scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the regular scheduled time.

Vomiting After Dosing: If you vomit after taking a dose, do not take an extra dose. Simply take your next scheduled dose as usual.

Dosage Verification: Before taking each dose, always check that the medication you have matches the prescription to ensure you are taking the correct dose.

Food and Drug Interactions:Certain foods and medications can affect the blood concentration of this drug. Avoid consuming grapefruit or grapefruit juice during treatment. Be sure to inform your healthcare provider of all medications and supplements you are taking.
