What side effects may Anagrelide cause?

Inform your doctor promptly if you experience any of the following symptoms that are severe or persistent:

Common side effects include headache and digestive discomfort such as flatulence, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain, heartburn, hiccups and loss of appetite. Respiratory or oromaxillofacial symptoms may also occur, such as a runny nose, nosebleeds, sore throat and oral ulcers. Some patients may have dizziness and changes in mood or mental state, such as depression, nervousness, forgetfulness, confusion, as well as sleep disturbances including difficulty falling or staying asleep. In addition, fatigue, drowsiness and a feeling of weakness are also common, which may be accompanied by muscle, joint or back pain and leg cramps. Other reactions include hair loss, fever, flu-like symptoms, painful urination, tinnitus and itchy skin.

Precautions for Anagrelide

1. Do not take Anagrelide if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. You should use effective contraception to prevent pregnancy during Anagrelide treatment. Discuss the appropriate contraceptive method for you with your doctor. If you become pregnant while taking Anagrelide, call your doctor immediately. Do not breastfeed while taking Anagrelide.

2. Inform your doctor or dentist that you are taking Anagrelide if you need to undergo any surgery, including dental procedures.

3. Anagrelide may cause dizziness, especially when you first start taking the medication. Do not drive a car or operate machinery until you know how this medication affects you.

4. Anagrelide may cause dizziness, lightheadedness and fainting if you stand up too quickly from a lying position. This is more common when you first start the treatment. To avoid this problem, get up slowly and let your feet rest on the ground for a few minutes before standing up.

5. Anagrelide may make your skin sensitive to sunlight. Plan to avoid unnecessary or prolonged exposure to the sun, and wear protective clothing, sunglasses and sunscreen.

How should Anagrelide be stored and disposed of?

1. Keep this medication in its original container, tightly closed, and out of the reach of children.

2. Store it at room temperature, away from light, excessive heat and moisture (do not store it in the bathroom).

3. Dispose of unused medication in a way that is inaccessible to pets, children and other people. Do not flush this medication down the toilet.

4. Use a medication take-back program. Consult your pharmacist for medication take-back programs in your community.

5. Keep all medications out of sight and reach of children, as many containers are not child-resistant.

6. Always close the safety cap tightly.

7. Store medications in a safe place—one that is high up, out of sight and not easily accessible.
